On your mark….

And so it begins.

The idea of a machine shop started with an interest in woodworking, but I needed more precision than a table saw and router could provide. When my wife, kids and I moved to Connecticut for my work in 2012, the desire to get more precise in my hands-on hobby led my son and I to acquire a Bridgeport mill and then a 12x36 lathe.

My son is the one that really ran with the machining. Which then led him to a community college for manual and CNC machining and then to Central Connecticut State University where he studied Manufacturing Engineering. He has worked in a sinker EDM electrode shop, the mold shop of a injection molding company, a few aerospace shops (including the exotic metals you’d expect), and since moving back to Iowa, in another very specialized injection molding company.

Our work at home has included firearms accessories (buttstocks, hand guards, & sight work) for long-range high-power rifle competitors. plus, some one-off jobs grinding chipper blades for tree services, and other odd jobs when word go out of what we could do.

I expect the early work in our new shop will be much like what has been done in the past, but we should pick up some one-off Ag work that comes from the area farmers. the goal will be to find local subcontracted work from other shops in a capacity bind, and we will be reaching out to manufacturers in our area.

We are still putting the shop together, and will be ordering the 4-axis CNC VMC soon.

The astute viewer will notice a few sections of this web site are not ready for prime time. Those will be coming as the shop gets going. In the meantime, I wanted to start to let people know we exist, will be open soon.

I look forward to hearing from you. Let me know what we can do to help.
